Scott Martin

Chief Executive Officer, President

Mr. Martin has over 34 years of experience in finance and accounting in the oil and gas industry. He has held previous positions as Vice President for Petex Production Company and as Chief Financial Officer for Lewis Energy Group. Scott has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Finance and Economics from Marietta College. Scott is a member of the American Financial Association and maintains numerous contacts in the energy lending arena.

Philip M. Mezey, PE

Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board

Mr. Mezey has over 34 years of engineering and technical experience in the oil and gas industry. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Syracuse University, New York, and a Master’s in Business Administration Degree from St. Mary's University, San Antonio. Phil's business experience includes the position of Petroleum Engineer for Texaco, and Manager of Engineering for Delhi Gas Pipeline Corporation. Phil previously held the position of Director of Engineering at Lewis Energy Group. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. Phil's area of expertise includes field operations, reservoir engineering, production and economic evaluation.

Mark A. Norville

President

Mr. Norville has worked in the development and exploration business for over 34 years in Texas. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University. Mr. Norville’s experience includes both field and management work in both South and East Texas during his career. Mr. Norville held the position of District Geologist for Clayton Williams Energy, Inc. as well as Exploration & Operations Manager for Stallion Oil Company, where he supervised and ran all of the field operations and business operations of the San Antonio office. Most recently, he was the Vice President of Exploration for Kerns Petroleum, Inc. of San Antonio, where he managed the exploration and development of the Olmos and San Miguel formation for the company from 1998-2005. He has also been active in the AAPG and SPE for over 30 years. He was also President of the South Texas Geological Society from 2000-2001. Mr. Norville’s area of expertise includes field exploitation, production evaluation and development planning for new exploration plays.

Eric Friedrichs

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Friedrichs has over 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He began his career in Houston headquarters of Coastal Oil & Gas. In 1997, he joined Lewis Energy Group as the Controller of their Exploration & Production subsidiary, Segundo Navarro. In 1998, he assumed the role of Corporate Controller for Lewis Energy and held that position until 2000. From 2000 until 2004, Mr. Friedrichs worked as a contract Controller for a variety of clients, including a production equipment manufacturer, a large interstate pipeline company and several exploration and production companies. During this time he assisted in the sale of a service company to a large publicly held entity and participated in taking a pipeline company public. In 2004, he helped form BlackBrush Oil and Gas and acted as its Corporate Controller until 2007 at which time he was promoted to Vice President of Business Development. In 2014, Mr. Friedrichs was named Chief Financial Officer of BlackBrush Oil & Gas. Mr. Friedrichs holds a BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a Masters from St. Mary’s University.

Steven P. Mowrer

Senior Controller

Steven joined BBOG in 2017 as Senior Controller. He has an extensive background in managing IT, HR, Budgeting, Financial and Statistical Reporting, Cash Management, Taxation, Benefits, Insurance and Due Diligence. He has served as Corporate Controller for Lewis Energy and as Controller for UGI HVAC Enterprises, Inc in Pennsylvania. Steven has a BS in Accounting and an MBA from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA. In addition to his vast work experience, Steven is most proud of his work as Treasurer and Coaching Director of the Lancaster County Special Olympics Committee in Pennsylvania. He served the non-profit organization for 21 years.

Jimmy Culp

Vice President, Marketing

Jimmy has a diverse background in upstream and midstream commercial/operations with over 30 years of experience with Shell Oil Co. Following early analytical and planning positions of increased responsibilities, Jimmy worked the last 19 years of his tenure in various commercial and operational roles. He last managed Shell Oil’s onshore US gas midstream positions in Appalachia, the Haynesville, the Rockies, Kansas, the Permian and the Eagle Ford through a commercial and operational staff of nine, as well as serving on the Permian and Eagle Ford asset leadership teams. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Sam Houston State University.

Cole Newman

Land Manager

Cole Joined BlackBrush Oil & Gas in 2008. His resume includes previous land experience as landman with Placid Oil Co. and District Land Manager for Clayton W. Williams. Cole has a BBA in General Business and Petroleum Land Management from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a member of the AAPL and SAAPL.

Jim Hamilton

Financial Reservoir Engineer

Jim Hamilton joined BBOG in June 2008 as Reservoir Engineering Manager - responsible for company reserve reports including production and cash flow forecasts. He is involved in banking relationships, acquisitions and dispositions. Prior to BBOG, Jim served in multiple capacities of several Texas banking organizations. Jim began his career as an engineer with Shell Oil in Houston and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas. Jim received his BA in Liberal Arts at Baylor and BS in Petroleum Engineering at the University of Texas Austin. He also attended the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University.
